There are only a few cars that carry the same weight and legacy as the Ferrari F40. Unfiltered and deeply connected to Ferrari’s racing heritage, it’s a vehicle that not only demands respect but the right approach when it comes to preservation. Adding another Ferrari F40 to the collection we’ve worked on, this one arrived to us from storage via transport, having just been acquired by its new owner, adding to his Ferrari collection. With completely original paintwork, the focus wasn’t on restoration but careful refinement and long-term protection.

Working with original paint

Originality plays a huge role in the value of collector cars, and this F40 was no exception. The paint presented with light to moderate swirl marks, typical of age and previous handling, but crucially retained its factory finish.

Machine polishing was carried out to enhance clarity and depth without compromising the integrity of the original paint. Along with replacing corroded screws with period correct parts provided by Ferrari, fixing micro-stone chips, and polishing the metal work and exhaust. The goal was simple: refine, not remove. The result is a finish that looks factory-fresh while preserving what makes the car truly special.

Experience matters

Entrusting a vehicle of this calibre requires the right level of expertise, and whilst all of our team are more than qualified, the detailing work was carried out by Mike, whose background includes paint and body specialist roles at McLaren Automotive and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, the only person working with the National Motor Museum.

That level of experience becomes particularly important when working with delicate, ageing materials, and irreplaceable finishes – where every decision has long-term implications.

Subtle protection where it matters

Rather than covering large portions of the car, protection was applied with intent.

The owner asked us to protect the inner door sills, an area often overlooked, yet highly susceptible to wear from entering and exiting the vehicle. With XPEL Paint Protection Film and experienced hands from James, our lead PPF installer, this area is now protected without altering the car’s appearance.

A professional-grade ceramic coating was then applied across the vehicle, enhancing gloss while adding a durable layer of hydrophobic protection against environmental contaminants.

The result

The transformation is subtle but undeniable.

The Rosso Corsa paintwork now carries a clarity and depth that feels true to how the car would have left the factory, while carefully selected protection ensures it remains that way. Combined with the long-term protection, the car presents exactly as a collector-grade example should.

For owners of high-end and collector vehicles, this kind of work isn’t just maintenance; it’s part of protecting the investment.
If you’re considering refinement or protection for a specialist vehicle, our team is always available to discuss the right approach.
